Whether you’re a proud native or a wide-eyed newbie, come celebrate the great state of Iowa at our debut Jazz Night concert. Swinging musical tributes will depict characteristics of life as an Iowan and recognize direct connections our state has with jazz music. The ISU Jazz Combos will kick things off with tunes by guitar wiz Pat Metheny, fusion stars The Brecker Brothers, jazz legend Miles Davis, and an assortment of jazz standards. Jazz 2.0 will follow with big band music from writer/arranger Phil Wilson, trumpet titan Maynard Ferguson, and fellow Big 12 pedagogue Dan Gailey. They will also debut a swinging arrangement of the Iowa State Fight Song and feature new trombone professor Nathan Dishman on a Frank Sinatra classic. The show starts @ 7:30 in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall with a $5 admission charge.
